I remember watching a show based on heavy movers and it had this ship in it. I can't remember if it was Discovery or History Channel, but I do know it was back when those channels were actually good.

There is a new show on National Geographic I believe called Rise of the Machines. It had this ship on it. Being an engineer i found the show to be very entertaining and informative.

Ballast tanks. I forget exact numbers, but under the flat portion of the boat are just empty rooms if you will...when they want the ship to go down the have huge pumps and can control how much water goes into each room to keep the load level. Pump the water out, boat comes back up. Air is lighter than water obviously and that ship has a very very wide hull so it displaces a lot of water meaning it can support a lot of weight.
